Salisbury & South Wilts Railway Society

In the early 1970’s there was a strong suggestion that the Salisbury - Exeter line should be axed and that Wilton South would become an unmanned halt on the Southampton – Bristol line.

This layout assumes that this happened and that a group of enthusiasts, because of its strong historical link, as the stopping point for the non-stop Devon Belle, purchased Wilton South Station and a length of track from Salisbury and towards Exeter.

The track plan is an accurate representation of the period. It is assumed that the Preservation Society has access to the main line and can invite a large variety of visiting preserved locomotives and stock.

The layout can also run locomotives and stock to represent the line as it would have been if it hadn’t been axed.

All stock is ‘off the shelf’ ready to run models from Peco, Graham Farish, Bachmann, Farish, Union Mills Models and Dapol.
